The OpenStreetMap layer is now available on PinMaps

This is an addition that we think you will love as much as we do. The beautiful OpenStreetMap (OSM) layer has been added to the map types options available. The map types controllers are located on the top left side of the map.

How to filter maps that are displayed on the map widget

If you would like to add more maps, but don't want to allow the visitors to the page where you display the map widget you can hide them from the list.

Click the dashboard link from the menu with the blue background located at the top of the "my maps" page.
Click the Maps on Widget link from the left menu.
Drag the map title block to the "Hide" or "Show" column.

A new way to add a logo to your map

Adding a logo to your map has been a feature available for many months, but now we have made the process a little easier.
Intuitive easy to use drag and drop interface.

Click the Add Logo icon

Drag image to upload

Crop the logo to the required size

Click Keep Logo or Start Again

If you need to delete the logo click the logo icon and then click the remove logo link

How is Pinmaps.net different from Google My Maps?

Pinmaps.net is an online mapping service built using the popular Google Maps API. Pinmaps offers a great deal of functionality and features that are not available on Google’s My Maps. There are many components that differentiate Pinmaps from My Maps; let’s learn more about what makes Pinmaps unique.

Each pin has its own unique properties. Pins in My Maps do not have their own identity when it comes to the zoom level and map type. Those factors are attached to the map itself, forcing the user to apply the same map settings to all their pins. This is not an issue in Pinmaps. Pinmaps enables users to assign map properties to each individual pin. Think of it as though the main map is a container where you can add pins.

Every map point or location represented by a pin are independent entities on Pinmaps. Points on the map can be saved with their own “Map Type” and “Zoom Level.” For example, you might click on one point that has a zoom level of 16 on a “Satellite” map. Another point on the same map could have a zoom level of 4 on a “Road” or “Terrain” map.

Maps and pins are completely customizable. On Pinmaps, you can assign a map to be viewed as a “Satellite,” “Road,” or “Terrain” map. Pins placed on that map can be viewed in the same manner as the map, or can be assigned a unique map type.

Take a snapshot, it will last longer. Pinmaps allows users to take “Snapshots” of their map. It helps to create regions and layer maps that have many pins.

Why is it important to be able to assign properties to individual pins? Freedom. Pinmaps users can choose, every map, every pin, every time, how they want to experience a map. This enables users to more precisely identify prospects, serve existing customers, and grow their business.

Update to the "Bulk Add" functionality used to upload a data file to map multiple addresses

We have updated the system to support data files that have the address separated into several columns. e.g. address, city, state, postal code and country.

This is the most common format therefore the importance of this update.
We will continue to support the previous data file format where the address field is all contained into one column.

Another very important update was to the geocoding functionality. The system is now more accurate to locate addresses and convert them into coordinates. Specially for addresses that seem to have several matches. Now the system will better reflect the most relevant address found.

Quick Add pins to your map

The "Quick Add" map points popup window allows you to quickly add addresses to your map.

Normally when you save a map point the popup window will close after each save, whereas on the "Quick Add" popup window every time you add a pin to the map the window will stay open and the map point list will refresh after each save.

Although you still save addresses one by one you can do it faster. For uploading a spreadsheet data file use the "Bulk Add"
functionality.

Google maps integration with Pinmaps.net

If you have a Google account and you're signed in to Google you will see a "user' icon" on many Web sites that use the Google map API which is the Pinmaps.net case.

Why would you like to have this functionality available?
It will allow you to save locations on Pinmaps that will also be available on Google maps
This location will be displayed on the map as a yellow star and will be shown on any Google enable maps that has the signed in functionality.

This setting is not enable by default, so you need to click on your "dashboard" link and click the settings page. Check the
box next to the " Signed-in to Google Account" label.

When this setting is enable you will see the "google icon" on your Pinmaps map.

Google Maps Street View right on your Pinmaps

As you may know Pinmaps uses Google map to power it's service, but what exactly is the Street View.

Here is the definition provided by Google: "Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides panoramic views from positions along many streets in the world."

Those 360 degrees panoramic images allows to navigate through the streets and famous touristic landmarks in many countries.

When you add a pin to your map you will automatically see a link to the street view image if there is an image available for that particular location.

You also drag and drop the Google maps pegman (icon that represents the google maps street view) directly to the map.

When you share a link to your map or maps you can add password protection to allow access only to the people you want.
When someone that you had shared the link with click the link on a mobile device, they will connect to the mobile Pinmaps site and will have to enter the password that you have previously shared with them.
This functionality was available on our main Website, but not on the mobile version.

How to display a YouTube or Vimeo video on the Pinmaps mobile

As we mentioned before you can add YouTube and Vimeo videos to your pins. The embedded videos can only be added on our main Website; however, a link to the video will be displayed on the info window on the mobile version.

But what is HTTPS and how it work?

Add a YouTube or Vimeo video to your pin map

The ability to add video to your map points (pins) has been available since the beginning of the service; however previously you had to add the "embedded" code provided by YouTube and now is as simple as adding the link to the video.

Update your pinmaps username

We're happy to announce that we have implemented functionality to update your username.
Click the "Dashboard" link and then click the update Update Username item from the menu.

Since usernames are used as part of the URL that point to your map when you share a map
only alphanumeric characters are allowed.

A more convenient way to delete map snapshots

What are map snapshots?
Map snapshots allow you save "static" view of specific portions of the map and they can have their own map type (road, satellite, hibrid, terrain) and zoom level independently from the default map view. This can be very useful if you have pins spread all over the world and you want to create snapshots of particular Countries or regions.
Take a look at one of the sample maps.

Click the "View Snapshots" link and navigate to the difrerent regions on the map.

How can I easily remove them?
You can now remove snapshots right from the snapshots list.
Previously you had to go to the snapshots page from the control panel to remove snapshots.
We have conveniently located a remove button next to the snapshot name.

Quick save pins to your map

We have added a "Quick Save" button to make it faster and easier to add pins to the map.
When you search an address you will see the new link on the "info window." You don't have to, but you can also select an icon for you pin or a default one will be added for you.
